The Farmer's Daughter

Here's a true story that has it all: pain and sorrow, courage and wisdom, sweetness, light, and love ~ and a dozen possible endings. Four years ago, a now-11-year-old Afghan girl lost her left eye in an explosion that killed three siblings and injured her mother. Defying the Taliban, who rule their area, her farmer father not only allowed but supported her charity-sponsored trip to the United States for treatment. "He's risking everything for his daughter," says a coordinator at the charity. "I'm in awe of this family's courage." The little girl has visited for three summers, living with a family that she now thinks of as her second one: http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-afghan-girl-20130803,0,3320571.story
