Just about everyone of a certain age remembers Patty Hearst and her kidnapping by the Symbionese Liberation Army in 1974. It was the first time most of us had heard the term "Stockholm Syndrome," which is the name for the relationship that can develop between a hostage and captor. As we're learning through more recent events, it's a very common condition for those in that kind of situation.
