File this under "duh." Still, it's a good reminder to parents and may come in handy for teachers and other professionals who work with children and need "official" stats to throw around in parent-teacher conferences. The results of a study, as summarized in the
Journal of Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology, show that children whose parents are warm and affirming with them are more empathetic. But that's not the most important bit of information. The researchers found that such parenting can actually make a huge positive difference with toddlers exhibiting "callous-unemotional" behavior:
