Crossing That Bridge

On March 19, a one-mile bridge over the Florida Everglades ~ the first section of a projected 6.5 miles called the Everglades Skyway ~ was finally finished. The hope and expectation is that, once the roadway below it is removed, water will flow more freely, helping to heal at least this one area of the endangered ecosystem.
The bridge had been four years in the building, decades after the project was first approved by Congress, in 1989. But for all intents and purposes, its story actually began back in 1928, when, to great fanfare and with the help of 2.6 million sticks of dynamite, our less environment-conscious progenitors built the Tamiami Trail: http://www.miamiherald.com/2013/03/20/v-fullstory/3296119/new-bridge-will-aid-in-restoring.html
