Mercury is in retrograde ~ you might want to warn your Facebook friends. No, really, it's such a meme! (In fact, I've posted about it before: http://somanyinterestingthings.blogspot.com/2013/10/it-happens.html.) But what is it, exactly, and is there any truth to it? Three or four times a year, a fantastic optical illusion takes place in which the planet Mercury appears to spin backwards for about three weeks. The popular belief is that this is a time of chaos. Computers crash, contracts are broken, phone lines go down ...
