Think of immigration, and we immediately imagine the challenges of learning a new language and adapting to a new culture. There is, however, one more reality that many immigrants to the U.S. have to deal with, one that, I suppose, would be easy enough for any Californian or Floridian to understand: the shock to the system of having to move from the sun to the snow. How does one dress? How does one keep from slipping on icy sidewalks?
