Talking the Talk

People move about the States a lot, be it for work, love, and/or adventure, but there's one way everyone can tell where a newcomer's from, and that's by the accent. (Unless, of course, that newcomer's taken an accent reduction or modification class.) I was surprised to note that, in this characteristic if in no other, Southern California is grouped in with Arizona, New Mexico, and about half of Texas (story, maps): http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/govbeat/wp/2013/12/02/what-dialect-to-do-you-speak-a-map-of-american-english/?tid=sm_fb
