While this piece was written by an Australian about the literacy problems there, it's equally pertinent to Americans and the literacy problems we are seeing more and more of here. In fact, minus the references to country and a politician, one would swear this was written about the United States. The issues are the same, and the suggested solution makes equal sense. Unfortunately, I doubt that it will ever be implemented here (don't even get me started).
