Swallowing Stars

Aren't black holes unbelievable? While we keep finding out more about them, it seems we can't really figure them out. A new discovery has overturned a theory held by scientists for several decades. It seems that star clusters, which had been thought to "kick out" black holes, do host them and may even be a place where they merge.
"These mergers may produce the 'ripples in spacetime' we call gravitational waves," said Tom Maccarone, an astrophysicist who was on the research team. "Trying to detect gravitational waves is one of the biggest problems in physics right now, because it would be the strongest test of whether Einstein's theory of relativity is correct": http://phys.org/news/2013-11-physicists-black-holes-globular-star.html
