It could be the world's second-oldest profession. In fact,
spying goes back at least as far as China's Sun-Tzu (544-496 BCE), who, in his famous The Art of War, describes five classes of spy ~ local, inward, converted, doomed, and surviving ~ whose combined use he calls "divine manipulation of the threads."
