The Earth Fights Back

A study of an oil field in western Texas has found a causal relationship between earthquakes and the practice of injecting carbon dioxide into oil wells. Oil companies started the injections in 2004 in order to maximize production. The information has implications for fracking and plans to inject energy-production waste water underground. Another planned procedure that could be affected is called carbon sequestration and involves storing greenhouse gas emissions underground: http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/energy/2013/11/131104-carbon-injection-earthquake-risks/
