Twirls and swirls bloomed in the snow. Over three days last February, artist Sonja Hinrichsen and a group of volunteers walked out onto a frozen lake in Colorado in their snowshoes and transformed its snowy surface into a temporary work of art. Her hope, Hinrichsen explains, is that her work "changes our perception of the landscape and accentuates the beauty
and magic of the natural environment, and thus inspires awe and
appreciation for art as well as for nature. I deem this important—especially as modern society becomes increasingly disconnected from the
