The New Sound of Music

Görkem Şen and his yaybahar
Never heard of a yaybahar? That's probably because it was invented only about six years ago, in Turkey. Its creator, Görkem Şen, explains that his inspirations were the didgeridoo, the ney (a Turkish instrument), and the thunder drum. It took him a lot of adjusting and fine-tuning, not to mention practice, but the result is worth the effort. “When you listen live this is really effective, really good mood and really good frequencies on the air,” Şen says. “It’s really delicious for ears.” (In the video, if you want to skip to the chase, try starting at 2:10.)
