Reading List

no. 1
no. 100
All those who dare to compile lists of the "best" or "worst" of anything take their egos into their own hands. There will always be critics with an opposing list, right or wrong, of the items that were supposedly missed. One of the toughest lists to organize is also one of those that have been created most often: the best books. A recent entrant into this arena is Robert McCrum, whose qualifications make his list of "The 100 Best Novels Written in English" worth a look. McCrum is an associate editor of The Guardian's Observer, having been its literary editor for 12 years. He was also editor-in-chief of the publishers Faber & Faber and is co-author of The Story of English. Each title is linked to his explanation of why he chose it: http://www.theguardian.com/books/series/the-100-best-novels
