According to the UN, there are as many as 150 million street children in the world today. Who counts as a street child? Again, according to the UN, "There are those who work on the streets as their only means of getting money, those who take refuge on the streets during the day but return to some
form of family at night and those who permanently live on the street
without a family network." April 12 is the International Day for Street Children, launched five years ago by the London-based Consortium for Street Children in order to bring attention to the issue and its innocent victims (website): http://www.streetchildrenday.org/the-day/#addyourvoice
