People Power

from sensorsmag.com
This is how old I am: I remember the world before answering machines ~ not voicemail, answering machines! I remember, too, thinking how invasive they were. And then came the Mac/PC and the cell phone and now I can't imagine being without them. Can't imagine not being connected. How disconcerting would it be, for example, if you logged on one day and nothing happened? If your phone suddenly went dead? Bad enough when it happens when you round a corner or go into a tunnel. Or what if the Internet was taken over by some Big Brother-type power? Enter the mesh network. Like so many innovations, it started in the military, but there are now apps that are making it available to the rest of us (story, video): http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-27225869
