A Total Eclipse of the Moon

F. Espenak
On the night of March 14, those in the Western Hemisphere will be treated to a rare sight: a total lunar eclipse, also called a blood moon, because the moon can appear red. It'll start at 1:58 a.m. (March 15) EDT, which is a more manageable 10:58 p.m. (March 14) PDT (for once, the time difference favors those of us on the West Coast!), and will last approximately 3 1/2 hours. Here's a great Q&A all about it: http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2014/04/140410-lunar-eclipse-blood-moon-space-viewing-guide/#at_pco=tcb-1.0&at_si=534c3a583dfa2ed0&at_ab=-&at_pos=0&at_tot=4
