The wonderful, prestigious Ig Nobel awards were handed out at a ceremony at Harvard University on Sept. 20. Among the winners in various fields was a British-U.S. team that came up with the "Ponytail Shape Equation" (yes, for real) that, together with the Rapunzel Number (ditto), "can predict the shape that hair will take when it is drawn behind the head and tied together": http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-19667664
