Pippi Longstocking had them, Judy Blume wrote a book in which they play a starring role, and, of course, there's Alfred E. Neuman, of MAD magazine fame. They seem to be the bane of most kids' existence, but some eventually grow to love them as a mark of individuality. They're ephelides, commonly known as freckles.
