Since Newtown
According to statistics compiled by Slate with help from a Twitter user and crowdsourcing, as of July 6, approximately 17, 286 of our countrymen (using the term generically to refer to men, women, and children) have died as a result of gun-related incidents since the Newtown tragedy on Dec. 14 ~ that averages out to about 82 deaths a day. Slate has turned to crowdsourcing because, it says, accurate statistics are hard to come by. Those compiled by the media are inaccurate because they don't learn about all of the incidents, and many are suicides, which are rarely reported. The point is, the numbers may be higher but most probably are not lower (interactive website): http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/crime/2012/12/gun_death_tally_every_american_gun_death_since_newtown_sandy_hook_shooting.html
