Scientists aka Misfits

Why is the new Wallace and Gromit movie called "The Pirates! In an Adventure With Scientists" in the UK but "The Pirates: Band of Misfits" in the US? Hmmmm ... Could it be for the same reason that the first Harry Potter book's title was changed from "Philosopher's Stone" to "Sorcerer's Stone"?
