(Caution: This may be disturbing to more sensitive readers.) There has been talk on and off about whether zoos are an inhumane, outmoded idea whose time has come and gone. Here's an ethical dilemma most of us have been unaware of: animal pregnancy. In U.S. zoos, contraceptive measures ensure that there are none.
