A study from McGill University in Canada seems to show that what a prospective father eats prior to conception is just as important as what an expectant mother consumes. The study was conducted on mice and focused on the vitamin B
9, or folate. “We were very surprised to see that there was an almost 30 percent
increase in birth defects in the litters sired by fathers whose levels
of folates were insufficient,” explained one of the researchers involved in the study:
