The ancient city of Heracleion, or Thonis ~ once an important and thriving port ~ lies, and has lain for 1,200 years, buried in the sand and mud of the Mediterranean. Fortunately for us all, it was found 13 years ago by a French underwater archaeologist and his team and is the subject of a new documentary (story, videos, slideshow):
